Merry Goblin

It’s been a while since this blog has seen some action. It sure was one weird year for me, which I will go into detail on the Year in Review post that will be released in a few weeks.

But it was also a year of great personal and artistic growth ( at least I hope it looks so) .
I’m still far from where I want to be, but it feels great to finally have something that could be considered a process which is what I’ll be sharing here.

Meet Minor, the jollyest goblin of them all

- Having the idea for the sketch now it’s time for clean up -

- I wanted to bring a traditional mood into this piece so I did a wash on the whole image with a textured brush instead of going with the Hard Round brush as I normally do. Same thing for the base colors, softly applying them with a textured brush -

- Moving on towards the shadows (painted in multiply) and Ambient Oclusion (also in multiply) -

At this stage I already get to see what the final result will be, the colors are there the main shadows as well.
There was something boring me though and it took me a few draw overs till I realized what it was. I wasn’t feeling the mistletoe and since I’ve been so immersed into Magic the Gathering Lore I took the liberty to add some fun artifacts and notes here and there.

- And now highlights, details details and details (I swear the 3 images are different). -

- And so here’s the final version -

Thank you for taking the time to read through this. Hope you have amazing holidays surrounded by food, friends and family. And a few jolly goblins ^^
